Description

With a 14-inch knotted cord, the Tau Wooden Pendant is a simple way to show your faith or be an inspiring gift for a loved one that hearkens back to a rich history.

The Tau Wooden Cross has fascinating roots in pre-Christian culture.  In ancient Egypt, the Tau was a pagan symbol that was later adopted by Coptic Christians because of its similarity to the cross of Christ.

As Christianity grew and spread, the Tau Wooden Cross became synonymous with followers of Christ.  Egyptian monk, Saint Anthony circa 300 A.D., is said to have used a Tau-shaped crutch.  As he was visiting neighboring Christians, he would leave his crutch outside the dwelling.  It became a symbol of Christianity and prayer.

Later, Saint Francis of Assisi brought the cross to popularity. He would sign his notes not with his name, but with the symbol of the Tau cross.  He told his friars to be walking crucifixes.

With a modern lens, we also know that the cross that Jesus Christ was crucified on may very well have been T-shaped, instead of the traditional t-shaped that we usually think of.

The Tau Wooden Cross has a fascinating history predating Christ and is a powerful example of how Jesus Christ brings light to the darkness.
