Description

The St. Benedict Medal came out in 1880 to commemorate the birth of Saint Benedict, the Father of Western Monasticism.

Also called the Jubilee Medal, the St. Benedict Oxidized Medal is  3/4" round and is made of lightweight aluminum. It's the perfect size and shape for adding to your scapular. It is a powerful sacramental in the Catholic Church and is well-known for warding off evil and for the symbolic design.

The face of the medal features a carved image of St. Benedict of Nursia and items significant during his lifetime, including a cross, his Rule for Monasteries(which is still used by monks today), a poisoned cup, and a raven. Surrounding the saint are Latin phrases, which translated read: “The Cross of our holy father Benedict” and “May we be strengthened by his presence in the hour of our death!”

On the back of the medal, the cross is dominant. On the arms of the cross are the initial letters of a rhythmic Latin prayer, which translated means: “May the holy cross be my light! May the dragon never be my guide!”

In the angles of the cross, the letters C S P B stand for Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti (The cross of our holy father Benedict). Around the margin of the back of the medal, the letters V R S N S M V - S M Q L I V B are the initial letters, as mentioned above, of a Latin prayer of exorcism.

Made in Italy. Available in singles or discounted bulk packs of 25, 50, or 100! Also available in 1/2" size: St. Benedict Jubilee Oxidized Medal, 1/2 Inch Round | Discount Catholic Products
