The faithful man made the request of his bishop repeatedly, until finally the bishop said he would grant his desires if he could show him a sign. Mary gives Juan Diego roses (which are not common in Mexico in December) to present to the bishop, but the true sign is when Juan Diego lets the roses cascade from his tilma, which was miraculously imprinted with that very radiant image of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
