St. Rita of Cascia suffered for many years during her marriage to a quick-tempered, immoral man but through countless prayers, she converted her husband and together they raised their children in the Christian faith. For this reason, she is widely known as the patron saint of impossible causes and difficult marriages.
After the death of her husband and sons, she became an Augustinian nun and she received a partial stigmata, a wound on her forehead, as though a thorn from Chrsit’s crown had pierced it.
