Saint Peregrine is the Patron Saint of Cancer. Born in Italy in 1260 he became a priest and devoted his life to caring for the sick and poor. At age 60 he developed cancer in his leg and was going to have it amputated. The night before the operation he prayed and fell into a deep sleep where he saw Jesus descend to heal his leg. When the doctor arrived to amputate the leg he found it miraculously healed.
The front of this coin features the words, "Saint Peregrine" and "Patron Saint of Cancer" encirling an image of the saint. The back contains the following prayer:
