Mary Helen MacKillop RSJ was an Australian nun who has been declared a saint by the Catholic Church, as St Mary of the Cross. Saint Mary MacKillop founded the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart, better known as the Josephite Sisters.
Her and her Sisters were able to offer social services that few, if any, government agencies in Australia could. They worked among the aborigines, or the indigneous people of the continent, taught in schools and orphanages, and served unmarried mothers.
This oxidized medal features an image of St. Mary of the Cross with her name written above. Reminding the wearer to invoke the intercession of this charitable saint.
Chain sold separately.
